Natore, June 8 (UNB) – A local UP member, kidnapped from here on June 5, was rescued in Shajahanpur upazila in Bogra district early Friday.

The rescued UP member was identified as Jahangir Alam, member of No. 6 ward of Piprul union of Natore Sadar upazila.

Police said Jahangir went to local upazila parishad along with Tk. 80,000 for official work at noon on June 5.

At that time a gang of miscreants, who introduced themselves as officials of relief office, took Jahangir in their car and later headed towards Bogra.

Later, the kidnappers contacted Rabiul Islam, brother-in-law of Jahangir, over cell phone and demanded Tk 20 lakh as ransom for freedom of Jahangir.

Being informed, Bogra police rescued the victim with the help of the guard of Physical Training College in Shajahanpur upazila at about 3am and handed him over to Natore police.

However, none was arrested during the drive in Bogra.

Local police arrested two people, Sabuj and Mannan, from Naldanga suspecting their involvement in the incident.
