Couple among 3 killed in Nilphamari lightning strikes

Nilphamari, June 9 (UNB) - Three people, including a couple, were killed as lightning struck them in Jaldhaka upazila on Saturday morning.

The victims were identified as Ekabbar Ali, 32, his wife Meher Banu, 25, of Ghughumari village, and Mamata Begum, 60, wife of Afaz Uddin of Taluk Golna village.

Locals said a thunderbolt struck Ekabbar and his wife at about 6:30 am when they were working at their house, leaving them dead on the spot.

Mamata died at the same time as she was struck by lightning while working at the courtyard of her house amid rain.
