Sylhet, June 09 (UNB) - A minor girl was strangled to death and her grandmother was hacked at their house at Purbo Dalaipara village at Khadimpara in sadar upazila on Saturday.

The dead are: Sadia Aktar, 6, daughter of Nasir Uddin of the village and a trainer at FIVD and Nasir`s mother Amina Begum, 70, wife of late Abdul Jalil.

Family sources said Amina used to live with her younger son Nasir`s house. Nasir and his wife Roksana Begum, a teacher by profession, left the house for their respective workplaces at 9am leaving Sadia and Amina alone at home. Earlier, Sidia`s elder sister Tisha left the house for her school.

Taking the advantage local criminals entered the house and chopped Amina with sharp weapons and at one stage stabbed her in her neck to ensure her death. The criminal did not spare the minor girl. They choked her to death and left the bodies of both the victims at the pantry of the house at around 2 pm.

Sumon, 10, nephew of Nasir, came to the house to meet his granny and cousin and found their bodies lying at the pantry.

Being informed Sumon`s mother Monowara Begum rushed to the spot and informed Nasir and Roksana who called Shah Poran thana police.

Police suspected that a gang of local criminals might have killed the duo and left the bodies there.

The bodies were sent to hospital for autopsy.

Amina`s body bore marks of multiple stab wounds including one in her neck while strangulation mark was found in Sadia`s body.
