5 killed in Sirajganj road crash

Sirajganj, June 10 (UNB) – At least five people were killed and 13 others injured in a head-on collision between two trucks at Naimuri in Salanga upazila on Sunday.

Four of the dead were identified as Jahurul, 35, son of Azizul Haq of Bhengri village, Anwar Hossain, 25, son of late Saidur Rahman, of the same village in the upazila, Puti Miah, 50, and ALtaf Hossain, 48, of Manikganj district. The identity of another deceased could not be known yet.

Police and witnesses said the accident took place on Hatikumrul-Banpara Highway at about 2:30pm as a Dhaka-bound cattle-laden truck collided with another goods-loaded truck coming from opposite direction, killing five people on the spot and injuring 13 others.

Of the injured, seven were taken to different local hospitals and clinics.

Police recovered the bodies and sent those to Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.

A case was filed with Hatikumrul Police Station.
