Dhaka, June 10 (UNB) - A Dhaka court will hear on June 14 the petitions filed by 29 leaders of the 18-party alliance, including BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, for the withdrawal of production warrants issued in connection with a bomb blast case.

Acting Judge of the Metropolitan Sessions Judges' Court Md Akhteruzzaman on Sunday fixed the date after the lawyers of the detained opposition leaders filed petitions with his court seeking withdrawal of the warrants.

The accused said they have already secured bail in a case filed for torching a bus near the Prime Minister’s Office on the night of April 29. So, they need withdrawal of the warrants for their release from jail.

On June 6, the same judge issued the warrants asking the jail authorities to produce the BNP-led 18-party alliance leaders, accused in the case filed in connection with two crude bomb explosions at the Secretariat on April 29, before his court on July 24.

Thirty opposition leaders, including the accused in the blast case, got bail from the High Court on June 7 in the vehicle torching case.

On May 31, police pressed charges against 29 leaders of the 18-party alliance, including BNP’s acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, in the case filed with Shahbagh Police Station.

Two homemade bombs exploded at the Secretariat during hartal hours on April 29 enforced by the opposition alliance protesting the disappearance of BNP leader M Ilias Ali.

The accused are BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir; its joint secretaries general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and Amanullah Aman; standing committee members Brig Gen (retd) ASM Hannan Shah, Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain and Goyeshwar Chandra Roy; former deputy minister Ruhul Quddus Talukder Dulu; lawmakers Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie, Syeda Asifa Ashrafi Papia, Shammi Akhtar Shifa, Rehana Akhtar Ranu and Nilufar Chowdhury Moni; former Dhaka City Corporation mayor Sadeque Hossain Khoka; Liberal Democratic Party President Oli Ahmad; Bangladesh Jatiya Party president Andalib Rahman Partha; Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal president Sultan Salahuddin Tuku and its organising secretary Anisur Rahman Khokon; Jubo Dal president Moazzem Hossain Alal and its general secretary Saiful Alam Nirob; Jatiyatabadi Swechchhasebak Dal president Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel and its general secretary Mir Sharafat Ali Safu; and BNP leaders Abdul Salam, Abdul Matin, SM Jahangir Hossain Sardar, Kamruzzaman Dulal, Kamruzzaman Ratan, Mertazul Karim Badru, Rehana Akhter Dolly and Tofazzal Hossain Bhuiyan.
