News - DU teacher held for ‘torturing wife for dowry’
Dhaka, June 11 (UNB) - Police arrested a Dhaka University teacher from the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s court premises on Monday as he went there seeking bail in a case filed on charge of torturing his wife.

The court rejected the bail prayers of Prof. Dr Jafar Ahmed Khan, a teacher of Statistics Department of the university, and sent him to jail.

Shahbagh police arrested him from the court premises.

Md Masud Rana, a sub-inspector of Shahabag thana, said Jafar Ahmed’s wife, Rebecca Pervin, filed the case against him on May 30 for torturing her for dowry.

Earlier, on Sunday, Rebecca held a press conference at Dhaka Reporters’ Unity demanding punishment of her husband for his alleged torture on her for realising dowry.
