Benapole, June 12 (UNB) – A youth was chopped to death by his rivals at Raghunathpur village here on Monday.

The dead is: Shahidul Islam, 27, son of Rahman Mollik of the village.

Benapole Port thana OC Hasan Hafizur Rahman said there was a long-standing enmity between Osman Mollik and Rahman Mollik over the possession of a piece of land.

In sequel to the enmity, supporters of the two men, equipped with lethal weapons, engaged in a fierce clash on Sunday.

At one stage Osman’s son Ataur Rahman allegedly chopped Shahidul and his brother Nasir indiscriminately, leaving them seriously injured.

They were rushed to a local hospital which referred Shahidul to Dhaka for better treatment as his condition deteriorated.

Shahidul succumbed to his injuries at a city hospital on Monday afternoon.
