8 killed in road crashes in Noakhali, Pirojpur

Noakhali, June 12 (UNB) - At least eight people were killed and 10 others injured in separate road crashes in Noakhali and Pirojpur districts on Tuesday.

In Noakhali: Five people were killed and seven others injured in triangular collision of a bus, a truck and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on Begumganj-Laxmipur road at Kalikapur in Begumganj upazila on Tuesday.

The dead are: Nargis, 28, Anwar Hossain, 26, Saleh, 21, Yasin Arafat Kathal, 25, and an unidentified youth, aged about 23. They all were auto-rickshaw passenger and hailed from Begumganj.

Police said a Laxmipur-bound bus of Adhunik Paribahan from Chaumuhani rammed a CNG-run auto-rickshaw coming from the opposite direction at about 12:30 pm when a speedy truck also hit the auto-rickshaw, leaving three auto-rickshaw passengers dead on the spot and 12 others injured.

The injured were rushed to various hospitals and clinics.

Among the injured, Yasin Arafat Kathal died at Begumganj upazila health complex while the unidentified youth succumbed at Noakhali Medical College Hospital.

Police seized the bus but it its driver and the truck driver managed to flee.

In another accident, an unidentified motorcyclist was killed and three others were injured when two motorbikes collided at Char Matua in sadar upazila on Tuesday.

In Pirojpur: Tarek, 28, son of Harun-or-Rashid Khan and Awlad, 22, son of Harun-or-Rashid Hawladar were killed when a betel nut-laden truck hit a motorbike on Bhandaria-Kathalia road at East Bhandaria in Bhandaria upazila at about 5:15 pm today.

Police seized the truck but could not arrest anyone as the truck driver managed to flee away.
