Sangsad Bhaban, Nov 3 (UNB) - Treasury bench lawmaker Surenjit Sengupta Tuesday called for immediate trial of the killings of four national leaders in Dhaka Central Jail to free the nation from stigma.
Taking floor on point of order, the veteran parliamentarian said the jail killing was a ‘state terrorism’ as the members of the army at the behest of the then President killed the four national leaders
entering the jail and came out in a heroic mood after killing them.
He said there will be no end to terrorism, militancy, tender manipulation, corruption and all sorts of conspiracies as long as the trials of the August 15 and November 3 tragic incidents take place. "The rule of law and absolute democracy are unlikely to be established unless the trial is held.”
He said the nation has long been waiting for the trail of the November 3 jail killings.
Surenjit said the judgment of the jail killings was pronounced but it was later reversed through manipulation.
He said the four national leaders were neither accused in any case nor convicted, but were in jail as political prisoners.
The AL MP proposed paying respect to the four national leaders in parliament.
Responding to the lawmaker, Deputy Speaker Shawkat Ali said, “We, on behalf of the Jatiya Sangsad, strongly condemn the killing of the four national leaders in jail and pay deep respect to their departed souls.”
