Ex-Dy Prime Minister MA Matin passes away

Dhaka, June 13 (UNB) - Former Deputy Prime Minister Dr. MA Matin passed away due to old age complications at his Rajarbagh residence in the city on Wednesday. He was 80.

His namaj-e-janaza was held on the south plaza of Jatiya Sangsad today.

BNP MPs and central BNP leaders attended the janaza.

Eye specialist MA Matin is likely to be buried at his village home in Sirajganj.

In a condolence message, BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia expressed her deep shock at the death of Matin, also a former BNP leader.

Countrymen will remember forever the tireless efforts made by Dr. Matin to uphold democracy and democratic rights of people. His death caused an irreparable loss to nationalist politics, said Khaleda Zia.

The BNP chief prayed for salvation of the departed soul and conveyed her sympathy to the bereaved family members.

In separate condolence messages, Speaker Abdul Hamid Advocate and Deputy Speaker Saukat Ali also condoled the death of MA Matin.
