Sayedee's eldest son dies

Dhaka, June 13 (UNB) - Rafique-Bin- Sayedee, the eldest son of Jamaat-e-Islami leader Delwar Hossain Sayedee facing war crimes trial, died of cardiac arrest at a city hospital on Wednesday. He was 46.

Family sources said Rafique, who went to the International Crimes Tribunal-1 where his father is facing trial, complained of acute chest pain after lunch break. He was rushed to Ibrahim Cardiac Hospital in an unconscious state where he died within half-an-hour.

Hospital sources said he died of cardiac arrest.

Tajul Islam, counsel for Sayedee told UNB that a prayer was submitted to the Home Ministry for the release of Sayedee on parole to conduct namaj-e-janaza of his eldest son.

Since the office was closed today they have been advised to come Thursday morning with the prayer, he said.

Earlier, on October 28 last year, Delwar Hossain Sayedee was freed on parole for half an hour to attend his mother's namaz-e-janaza. His mother Gulnaher Yousuf Sayedee died at Sayedee's Shahidbagh residence in Motijheel area on October 26.

Jamaat-e-Islami Nayebe Ameer (vice-president) Delwar Hossain Saydee was arrested on June 28 along with the party chief Motiur Rahman Nizami, Secretary General Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojaheed on charges of hurting religious sentiments of Muslims.

Meanwhile, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia expressed deep shock at the death of Rafique-Bin-Sayedee.

In a condolence message, she prayed for the salvation of the departed soul and expressed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.
