Dhaka, June 13 (UNB) - A parliamentary watchdog on Wednesday suggested making the tax collection process simple and easy to encourage people to pay more taxes.
The parliamentary standing committee on Finance Ministry at its 48th meeting also recommended expanding the purview of the tax.
The meeting was held at Sangsad Bhaban with the committee chairman, AHM Mustafa Kamal, in the chair.
Committee members Prof. Mohammad Ali Ashraf, AKM Maidul Islam and MA Mannan attended the meeting.
The meeting held an elaborate discussion on the activities of NBR and stressed on the importance of overall readjustment of existing taxation system.
It called upon the NBR to shift away from the dependency on indirect tax alongside increasing direct tax.
The meeting suggested bringing the power sector under tax holiday for enhancing investment in the sector.
