Peacekeeper to get $ 60m in addition to their salary
Dhaka, June 13 (UNB) - Bangladesh once again played key role in raising pay of the members of UN peacekeeping mission where Bangladesh is the top contributor of troops.
In the wake of the demand made by the contributing countries to raise salary of the members of the peacekeeping mission, United Nations 5th Committee on Budget & Administration on Tuesday unanimously decided to pay additional US $ 60 million to distribute among the peacekeepers working at different UN peacekeeping missions in the world for nine months.
An official release said the amount will be proportionately distributed among the peacekeepers on the basis of number of troops contributed by an individual country to work under UN peacekeeping missions.
It said the 60m dollar will be distributed among the peacekeepers in addition to $ 1,028 salary received by each peacekeeper per month.
All the troops contributing countries, spearheaded by major ones including Bangladesh, placed the demand before the committee late last year to raise salary of the UN peacekeepers. Since then Bangladesh was playing an active role to press the UN body to implement the demand.
In 2011 Bangladesh also played key role to raise salary of the UN peacekeepers. Following persuasion of the major troops contributors the UN body then provided at a time $ 85m to distribute among the members of the peacekeeping missions for the financial year 2011-2012.
