Man gets 10 yrs imprisonment for robbery in Jessore

Benapole (Jessore), June 14 (UNB) – A court in Jessore town on Wednesday convicted a man and sentenced him to 10 years imprisonment for committing a robbery.

The court also fined the convict Montaz Ali, son of Momin Morol of Shaymkur village in Monirampur upazila Tk 10,000, in default, to suffer one year RI more.

According to prosecution, a gang of robbers stormed into the houses of Bankim Chandra, Nishikanta, Kartik Chandra, Niranjan and Shukdeb Chakrabarty at Mobarakpur village in Monirampur upazila on April 14, 2001.

They looted cash, gold ornaments and other valuables from the houses and fled the scene.

A case was filed and police after investigation submitted charge sheet against six accused including Montaz.

After examining the records and witnesses Additional District and Sessions Judge Jahanara Begum handed down the verdict acquitting five others.
