Dhaka, June 14 (UNB) – Industries Minister Dilip Barua has sought Chinese support for mimplementing Bangladesh’s mega projects –- Padma Bridge, deep seaport –- as well as exploring gas and oil in the Bay of Bengal.

During a meeting with Chinese Vice Minister of Commerce Dr Li Jin Zhao, the visiting Industries Minister also sought Chinese support for establishing road network with China (Kungmin), according to a message received here on Thursday.

The meeting, held at the Commerce Ministry of China, discussed various bilateral issues, including Chinese support for Bangladesh’s industrial sector.

Barua, during the hour-long meeting with Zhao, thanked the Chinese government for financing Shahjalal Fertilizer Factory project and its support in implementing 3-G (third generation) project in Bnagladesh.

He also drew the attention of Zhao to quickly complete the Water Treatment Plant at Pagla in the capital.

The Industries Minister described the potential of investment in Bangladesh and invited the Chinese entrepreneurs to invest in the prospective areas, either directly or in joint ventures.

He mentioned that the government will provide industrial plots on priority basis in the specialised economic zones if the Chinese entrepreneurs come up with investment.

Mentioning China as an important trade partner of Bangladesh, Barua requested Zhao to arrange a single-country trade fair in China to popularize Bangladeshi products in the Chinese market.

The Chinese Vice Minister appreciated the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in attaining sustainable socioeconomic development.

Terming Bangladesh a tested development partner of China, Zhao assured Barua of Chinese support for road infrastructure development, exploration of natural resources, strengthening regional connectivity and socioeconomic development of Bangladesh.

Bangladesh Ambassador to China Munshi Fayez Ahmed, BCIC chairman M Golam Robbani, joint secretary of Industries Ministry M Khalilur Rahman Siddiqui and M Ashraf Shamim were present during the meeting.
