ANKARA, Turkey, JUNE 14 (AP/UNB) - Officials say a magnitude-5.5 earthquake has shaken southeastern Turkey, damaging a mosque minaret, but there were no reports of casualties.

The Kandilli Observatory seismology center says the quake's epicenter was in the village of Pinaronu, some 4 kilometers (2.5 miles) away from the Syrian border.

The quake rocked Pinaronu, located between the towns of Cizre and Silopi, on Thursday morning at about 0552 GMT.

Earthquakes are frequent in Turkey, much of which lies atop active fault lines.
