Dhaka, June 14 (UNB) – Treasury bench member Hafiz Ahmed Majumdar on Thursday strongly opposed the black money whitening provision in the proposed budget and said the government does not have the right to give scope to legalise ‘illegal income’ through 10 percent penalty.
“If the government allows whitening black money at 10 percent penalty, it’ll be injustice,” he told parliament while taking part in general discussion on the proposed budget for the fiscal year 2012-2013.
The Awami League MP advised the government not to take any responsibility of the black money. “Don’t take any effort that will fail.”
He said the country needs investment for the development but whitening black money is not the way to increase investment.
The AL lawmaker also criticised the government for not taking any effective step to stop MLM (multi-level marketing) business and punish those looted money from the share market.
“Thousands of crores of taka has been looted in the name of MLM business and through share market manipulation,” he alleged.
