News - Road blocked in Sylhet protesting power outage
Sylhet, June 15 (UNB)–Several hundred people took to the street in Sheikh ghat Jitu Mia Point area of the city and barricaded the road on Thursday night in protest against prolonged power outages, disrupting traffic movement for two hours.

Police said local people took to the street at about 7:30 pm and staged demonstration demanding an end to frequent outages in the area.

The demonstrators also vandalised a police pickup van while passing the area during the blockade programme that began at 8:30 pm.

Being informed high officials of local administration rushed to the spot to bring the situation under control. Additional police were deployed in the area.

However, the agitating people withdrew the blockade at 10:30 pm after police, power supply authorities and local administration officials assured them of resolving the problem.
