Dhaka, June 17 (UNB) – Zimbabwe made a good start in the unofficial Tri-Nation T20 Tournament beating Bangladesh by 11 runs at the Harare Sports Club ground today (Sunday).
Hosts Zimbabwe opened the innings first after winning the toss and scored a moderate total of 154 for 6 in stipulated 20 overs.
Opener Hamilton Masakadza quick-fired 35-ball 62 runs featuring six fours and four sixes and was adjudged man of the match.
One down Brendan Taylor contributed 41-ball 38 runs hitting one four and one six while number five Stuart Matsikenyeri added 18 runs off 16 deliveries.
Pacer Abul Hasan took two wickets for 37 runs while spinner Elias Sunny and pacer Mashrafe Bin Mortaza took one wicket each conceding 30 and 33 runs respectively.
In reply, Bangladesh made a good start scoring 61 runs in 9.3 overs in the opening stand by Tamim Iqbal and Mohammad Ashraful but failed to reach target due to slow run rate and finally scored 143 for five in quota 20 overs.
Opener Tamim Iqbal contributed the team highest 38 runs off 35 balls featuring three fours, number six Nasir Hossain quick-fired 15-ball 29 runs hitting three fours while Ziaur Rahman made 22-ball 23 runs featuring two fours and one six.
Opener Mohammad Ashraful added 28-ball 22 runs with two boundaries, vice captain Mahmudullah Riyad contributed 15-ball 14 runs with one four while skipper Mushfiqur Rahim scored four-ball five runs with boundary.
Pacer Mpofu took two wickets for 20 runs while Utseya, Jarvis and Muzhanga took one wicket each conceding 18, 32 and 33 runs respectively.
In the double-leg basis tri-nation T20 meet, Bangladesh will play South Africa on June 19, play again against hosts Zimbabwe on June 21 and South Africa on June 22, all at the Harare Sports Club ground.
