Dhaka, June 18 (UNB) – As two months have elapsed since his disappearance, opposition BNP on Monday renewed its demand to the government to return its missing leader M Ilias Ali to his family alive.
“We again demand the government return Ilias Ali alive. It’s their (govt) responsibility to ensure his safe return,” BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said when visited Ilias’ Banani residence, ‘Sylhet House’.
Fakhrul had been at Sylhet House at noon with a big birthday cake to wish Sayara, daughter of Ilias Ali, on her 10th birthday.
As emotion-choked Fakhrul greeted Sayara and asked her, “How’re you mom?” a pall of gloom descended on the house.
He also exchanged greetings with Ilias’ wife, Tahsina Rushdir Luna, and his two sons, and enquired about their conditions.
BNP leaders Mojubur Rahman Sarwar, Shahiduddin Chowdhury Annie and BNP chairperson's media wing member Shairul Kabir Khan were also present.
Later, talking to reporters, Fakhrul said as per the information provided by witnesses and different sources they are sure that members of government agencies made Ilias disappeared.
Referring to the assurance given by the Prime Minister to trace out Ilias, he said two months have elapsed since Ilias went missing but the government could not yet say where Ilais Ali is.
On May 2, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina assured Ilias’ wife of doing her best to trace out him.
She gave the assurance when Luna and her three children met the Prime Minister at her official residence Ganobhaban.
Meanwhile, on June 14, Sayara wrote a letter addressing the Prime Minister seeking measurers to have her father back before her 10th birthday as her birthday gift.
Though the letter did not reach the premier, Sayara showed it journalists on Monday.
Referring to Sayar’s letter, Fakhrul said it was a very painful appeal of a little girl. ”Not only Sayara and us, but also the people of the country want Ilias’ safe return.”
Luna still hopes her husband is alive and he will return home safe. "I'm still waiting for my husband. I’m counting on Allah," she told reporters.
