Bogra, June 18 (UNB) – Doctors of all the public hospitals in the district went on a 14-hour work abstention every day at their respective hospitals demanding arrest of those attacked two doctors at Sonatala Upazila Health Complex recently.
They decided to observe the work abstention, called by district unit of Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA), from 9 am to 11 pm every day until their demand is met.
The sudden strike of the doctors caused untold sufferings to the patients coming to the hospitals for treatment.
However, the emergency services of the hospitals did not fall under the purview of the work abstention programme.
Police said a group of 10/12 people, led by organising secretary of the upazila unit of Awami League Zakir Hossain, beat two doctors of the upazila health complex after they referred a teenage boy who swallowed poison for killing self to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital instead of admitting him to the health complex on June 13.
The hospital authorities filed a case against 10 people with mentioning the names of four in this connection.
District unit of BMA at a meeting on June 14 demanded that the administration arrest the attackers by Saturday.
As the administration failed to arrest them, the doctors went on the strike today.
Meanwhile, police super Mozammel Haque said police have already arrested an accused and were trying to capture others.
