
Dhaka, June 19 (UNB) - Labour and Employment Minister Engr Khandker Mosharraf Hossain on Tuesday said in Parliament that an agreement at the government level will be signed soon with Malaysia to send Bangladeshi workers there.
“We hope the agreement will soon be signed with Malaysia to send workers from Bangladesh,” he told the House in reply to a tabled question of Apu Ukil (Women Seat 2).
The Minister said a high-level Malaysian delegation visited Bangladesh on June 5-7 and witnessed the process of sending workers abroad from here. “The Malaysian government has expressed interest to take workers from Bangladesh.”
He also said that another delegation of the Malaysian government visited here in January 2011 (January 8-11) to discuss the issue.
“After fruitful discussion with the Malaysian government during the Prime Minister’s Malaysia visit in May 2010, Labour Minister, Foreign Minister and Labour Secretary also visited Malaysia to follow up the issue of sending workers to Malaysia,” Khandaker Mosharraf added.
