Dhaka, June 20 (UNB) – State Minister for Labour and Employment Monnujan Sufian at a meeting on Wednesday said investigators have already identified the suspected killers of garment workers’ leader Aminul Islam, but the suspects have fled the country.
“The investigation into Aminul’s murder has made a good progress, as four of the suspected killers have been identified,” general secretary of Bangladesh Garments Shramik Karmachari Federation Quamrul Ahsan quoted Monnujan as saying.
He was talking to reporters after the meeting at Srama Bhaban.
Quoting the minister, Quamrul Ahsan said all of the four suspects, including one of Aminul’s colleagues, Mostafizur, have fled the country.
President of Textile-Garments Workers’ Federation Abul Hossain said the minister assured that the government has taken necessary steps to arrest the suspects as quick as possible.
Md Israfil Alam, chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee for Labour and Manpower Ministry, who was also present at the meeting, told reporters that the issue of Aminul’s murder also came up for discussion.
Asked about the progress of the investigation, Israfil parried the question saying that his comments may influence the investigation.
Police on April 4 identified the dead body of Aminul Islam, a leader of Bangladesh Garments and Industrial Workers Federation, recovered from a ditch at Ghatail in Dhaka. He was reportedly abducted from Ashulia on April 4.
