Dhaka, June 20 (UNB) – Deputy Leader of Parliament Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury on Wednesday urged the opposition leader and opposition lawmakers to speak in Parliament what they want to say “discarding the farce in the name of ultimatum.”
“Come to Parliament shunning the farce in the name of post-Ramadan or post-Eid ultimatum; speak what you want to say. Let us work together for the national interest,” she said participating in the general discussion on the national budget for fiscal 2012-13.
Refuting Khaleda Zia’s pledge to make Bangladesh a middle income economy by 2030, Sajeda said: “We will build up Bangladesh as the mid-income country by 2021. Don’t push back the country. Steer the country forward.”
She dismissed the opposition’s contention that the government is losing popularity and referred to a survey by the US based Gallup that said that activities of Sheikh Hasina have the support of 77 percent Bangladeshis and that rated Sheikh Hasina among the top seven of the Asian leaders.
Referring to the formation of the 18-party alliance under the leadership of BNP, the deputy leader of parliament said such an alliance “cannot bring welfare for the people.”
She said people abhor the politics of killing people through burning and damaging vehicles.
About the anti-Liberation elements, Sajeda said she has heard that notorious `Bachhu Razakar’ fled the country while Mir Kashem Ali has been caught.
“More Razakars will be captured,” she said and urged the law enforcing agencies to “make sure that not a single Razakar can flee the country.”
Referring to the Presidential election in India, Sajeda said she feels proud that the ruling Congress has nominated Pranab Mukherjee. “Being a Bangalee I am proud of it.”
She expressed the hope that Bangladesh-India bilateral relations will be strengthened further through the election of Pranab Mukherjee as the President of India.
