Housewife burnt in acid attack in Jessore
Benapole (Jessore), June 21 (UNB) – A young housewife sustained acute burn injuries in an acid attack by her husband at Rundia village in Avoynagar upazila of Jessore on Wednesday.
The victim was identified as Lata Rani, daughter of Mahitosh Biswas of the village.
Family sources said Biplob Kumar, son of Sushil Biswas of Arpara village of Arpara upazila of Magura district, married Lata Rani three years ago and took Tk 1.5 lakh and valuables as dowry from Lata’s family.
Later, Lata’s father again gave Tk 80,000 to Biplob as dowry.
But Biplob recently started torturing her to bring Tk 2 lakh more from her father as dowry. On the fateful morning Biplob picked up a quarrel with her over the issue and at one stage threw acid on her body, leaving her seriously injured.
Hearing her shrill cry, local people tried to rescue her but Biplob chased them.
Local people informed Lata’s family. Later, they rescued her and admitted to Avoynagar upazila health complex where her condition was stated to be critical.
A case was filed.
