News - PM stresses modern training facilities to groom world-class booters
Dhaka, June 21 (UNB) - Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday emphasized modern training facilities in the country to groom world-class football players.
 
She gave the emphasis while talking to a delegation of the newly elected office bearers of Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF), which led by BFF president Qazi Salahuddin met her at the Prime Minister’s office.
 
Terming football the most popular game in the world, the Prime Minister directed the authorities concerned to take all possible steps to make football more popular in the country.
 
She also stressed the need for involving the country’s youths in games and sports for building sound health and strong character.
 
Hasina asked the BFF executive members to put emphasis on creating world class ‘Star Football Players’ in the country so that they could compete in the international arena.
 
PM’s Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad briefed reporters after the meeting.
 
The Prime Minister said the youths could be prevented from drug addiction and other anti-social activities if they could be attracted and engaged in games and sports.
 
She said that her government and she herself attach importance on the development of country’s games and sports. Many of her family members were involved in games and sports, she added.
 
Hasina mentioned the various steps taken by her government for the development of country’s sports including achieving one-day and test status in cricket during its previous term and successfully co-hosting the ICC World Cup Cricket 2011 and holding the South Asian Games in 2010.
 
The BFF officials lauded the role of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for the development of games and sports including the development of various sports infrastructures in the country.
 
The Prime Minister gave a patient hearing to the BFF delegation which spoke of their various problems and assured them of solving those in consultation with the concerned authorities,
