News - Govt lost popularity for misrule: Fakhrul
Dhaka, June 22 (UNB) – BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Friday claimed that the government has sharply lost its popularity due to its misrule and corruption.

“Even 10 percent people are not with the present government for their misrule and failure to deliver,” he said while addressing a demonstration in front of BNP’s Nayapaltan central office in the capital.

Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal organised the programme demanding the release of its detained leaders, including JCD President Sultan Salauddin Tuku and general secretary Amirul Islam Alim.

Speaking on the occasion, Fakhrul said the fall of this autocratic government is imminent like the past ones as people have got fed up due to the misrule in the last three and a half years.

He renewed the BNP’s demand for restoration of the caretaker government system, or else he warned, they would intensify the ongoing movement to compel the government to accept the demand for holding the next parliamentary polls under a non-party administration.

The BNP spokesman demanded immediate release of the detained opposition leaders, including that of JCD, and withdrawal of “false” cases filed against them.

Fakrul alleged that the government destroyed peace in the country turning it into a death valley only to cling to power against the will of people. “The day is not far away when you will have to land in jail where you’ve kept our leaders now,” he added.
