Dhaka, June 23 (UNB) – Bangladesh Sarak Paribahan Sramik Federation on Saturday threatened to go on a countrywide strike on July 3 if their five-point demands are not met by the time.
Addressing a press conference at the National Press Club, Federation secretary Osman Ali said they have decided to enforce a 24-hour strike on the day to press home their demands.
“The transport workers leaders will be compelled to enforce the strike if our demands are not met by July 2,” he said.
The demands include renewal of old driving licenses, issuing of new ones, putting an end to harassment and extortion by ‘police’ and scrapping the provision to file case under article 302.
Osman Ali said they will submit memorandums to the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition on June 25, and stage countrywide demonstrations on June 30 to realise their demands.
