Chittagong, June 23 (UNB) - Acting Pakistan High Commissioner to Bangladesh Afzaal Mahmood on Saturday said Pakistan can become a very vital market for Bangladeshi ceramics and pharmaceuticals.

He offered three proposals to reduce the trade gap between the two countries, including proper initiatives through Bangladesh-Pakistan Joint Economic Commission.

The two other proposals are joint intervention by the Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) and Pakistan High Commission and enhancing activities between the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) and the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI).

Mahmood came up with the proposal during a meeting with the leaders of Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) at its office in World Trade Centre.

CCCI President Murshed Murad Ibrahim and its directors attended the meeting, said a press release.

Mahmood emphasised sending a business delegation, removing non-tariff barriers and reforming monetary exchange systems in this regard.

He opined that expected results can be achieved in this regard by properly implementing these proposals.

Murad Ibrahim informed the High Commissioner about the plan of sending CCCI business delegation and taking part in exhibitions in Pakistan to display Bangladeshi products.

He mentioned the previous visit of a CCCI delegation to Pakistan in this connection.

Chamber director MA Salam said Bangladesh-India bilateral trade has yielded good benefits under Safta and gave importance on removing hurdles on the way to gain the same with Pakistan.

“Besides, a direct shipping line between Chittagong and Karachi should be established in order to expand bilateral trade and business,” he added.

Chamber directors Mazharul Islam Chowdhury, Mahfuzul Hoque Shah, Jahirul Islam Chowdhury (Alamgir), M Shahin Alam, M Ahid Siraj Chowdhury, Morshed Arif Chowdhury, Syed Jamal Ahmed, Absar Hasan Chowdhury and Omar Faruque also took part in the discussion.
