Pabna, June 23 (UNB) – The alleged assaulter of journalist ABM Fazlur Rahman was arrested in the town on Friday evening, 34 days after the cruel incident.

Sadar thana Sub Inspector Ziaul Haque Zia told UNB that they conducted a drive at Pabna Medical College Hospital Road at 7:30 pm on secret information and held Sujon Hossain, 25, the prime suspect in a case filed on May 20, a day after the heinous attack on Fazlur Rahman, staff reporters of Dhaka-based private television station NTV and vernacular daily newspaper `Somokal`, also published from the capital.

OC of sadar thana Afzal Hossain Khan said arrestee Sujon, son of Kazi Anwar Hossain of TB Hospital area of Shalgaria in the town was taken to police station for interrogation. He will be produced before court for remand, he added.

SI Zia, also investigation officer (IO) of the case, two suspects in the case were arrested from Edward College area on the night of May 20. Following their confessional statement and evidences gathered during investigation enough proof was found which substantiated the allegation that Sujon, along with his accomplices attacked Fazlur Rahman with sharp weapons and chopped him leaving him injured when he was performing profession duty on Edward College campus on May 19.

Fazlur lodged the complaint with sadar thana against a gang of unidentified youths for chopping him.

The incident created an uproar triggering non-stop street agitation by members of Pabna Press Club, journalists of the district. Angered at the incident members of National Pres Club and journalist community in Dhaka also staged a series of demonstration in front of the NPC demanding arrest and punishment of Fazlur Rahman`s attackers.
