Dhaka, June 24 (UNB) – The country achieved 6.2 percent economic growth on average in the first three fiscal years of the present government, Finance Minister AMA Muhith told Parliament Sunday.

Answering a tabled question of Muhibur Rahman Manik (Sunamganj-5), the Finance Minister said the average economic growth achieved during the five fiscal years (2001-06) of BNP-Jamaat alliance government was 5.7 percent.
 
The country received remittance worth US$ 39,589.22 million during the period of January 2009 to May 2012, he said while responding to another tabled question of treasury bench lawmaker Sarah Begum Kabari (Narayanganj-4).

Replying to a question of Begum Nasrin Jahan Ratna (Women Seat 42), the Minister said the government earned revenue worth Tk 7701.54 crore from Benapole land port as of April 2012 since 2008-09 fiscal. The amount is Tk 3399.06 crore more than that of the previous three years, he added.
