News - Journos ask ATN boss to prove claim on Sagar-Runi murder
Dhaka, June 24 (UNB) – Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) president Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury on Sunday asked the ATN Bangla Chairman to prove his claim that Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi were victims of an extramarital affair.

BFUJ leader was addressing a human chain programme in front of the National Press Club in the city.

BFUJ, Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) and Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) organised the human chain demanding the arrest of the killers of their all colleagues murdered in the past, including that of Sagar-Runi, ensuring their security while performing their professional duties and protesting the recent attacks on the media people.

Iqbal Sobhan also demanded legal action against ATN Bangla Chairman Mahfuzur Rahman for his false claims about the motive of the murder of the journalist couple.

Posing a question, he said if the Prime Minister, Home Minister and Inspector General of Police are so interested about the Sagar-Runi murder case, then why the killers are not arrested.

Issuing a strong note of warning to Cultural Society which convened a human chain programme in front of the National Press Club for Monday, the BFUJ president said if the organisation forms the human chain in favour of Mahfuzur Rahman, they (journalists) do not know what will happen in the future.

He, however, assured Cultural Society that the journalist community will be always with it if the organisation forms the human chain demanding the arrest of the killers of Sagar-Runi

BFUJ President Ruhul Amin Gazi, BFUJ general secretaries Shawkat Mahmud and Jalil Bhuiyan, DUJ general secretaries Shaban Mahmud and Baker Hossain, DUJ presidents Abdus Shahid and Omar Faruk, DRU president Shakhawat Hossain Badsha and general secretary Sajjad Alam Khan Tapu also spoke at the programme.
