Saudi Prince assures Khaleda of resolving B’deshi workers problems

Dhaka, June 24 (UNB) – Newly appointed Saudi Crown Prince Salman Bin Abdul Aziz on Sunday assured Opposition Leader Khaleda Zia of taking effective measures to resolve the problems facing by Bangladeshi migrant workers in Saudi Arabia.

The Price gave the assurance when Khaleda met him and requested to solve Bangladeshi workers’ problems, including non-issuance of work permits to them.

The 40-minute meeting was held at the office of the Price in Riyadh around 10:30am (Saudi time).

The position leader’s entourage members, including her adviser Riaz Rahman BNP vice-chairman Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury, her Saudi affairs special envoy Emauml Haque Chowdhury and press secretary Maruf Kamal Khan were present at the meeting.

Prince Salman was appointed the Crown Prince and Deputy Prime Minister with additional responsibilities of the Defense Ministry following the recent death of Prince Nayef bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud.

During the meeting, the new Prince expressed his gratitude to Khaleda for expressing sorrow at Prince Nayef’s death and sending a delegation to his Janaza.

Khaleda Zia and Prince Salman discussed various issues relating to the interest of the two countries and the Muslim Ummah.

Responding positively to the request of Khaleda for resolving Bangladeshi workers’ problems and taking more workers from Bangladesh, the second powerful Saudi man said he would take up the matter with the authorities concerned for consideration.

As the opposition leader sought his cooperation in increasing more investment and financial assistance in Bangladesh, the Saudi Deputy Prime Minister assured her of taking steps in this regard.

Recalling late president Ziaur Rahman’s role in establishing relations between the two countries, the Prince narrated his cordial discussion with the BNP founder during his visit to Bangladesh at that time.

The BNP chief also extended support of his party and the people of Bangladesh to the role of Saudi King Abdullah in establishing and maintaining peace and discipline in the Muslim countries, including the Arab world.  

Khaleda Zia and Prince Salman also vowed to work together in the interest of the Muslim Ummah’s unity and welfare.  

Khaleda Zia invited the Prince to visit Bangladesh which he accepted gladly.

The opposition leader went to Saudi Arabia on Saturday at the invitation of the Saudi government for her medical treatment. She underwent health checkup at The King Faisal Specialised Hospital.

The BNP chief is scheduled to return home early Monday after the nine-day visit to Saudi Arabia.

During her stay in Saudi Arabia, the BNP chief also performed holy Umrah and held meetings with Saudi officials and OIC Secretary General Dr Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu.
