Dhaka, June 25 (UNB) – Valuables worth Tk 15 lakh were gutted as a fire broke out at the office of Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited (BTCL) on Manik Miah Avenue in the city early today (Monday).

Mohammad Ali, duty officer at the Central Fire Control Room, said the fire originated from an electrical short circuit at 5:17 am on the ground floor of the five-storey building, burning down huge wires.

Five BTCL employees were also injured while trying to put the blaze, he said.

On information, eight fire-fighting units from three fire stations rushed in and doused the blaze at 7:20 am before it raged through other floors, said Mohammad.

He also said the firefighters had been able to save valuables worth Tk 1.5 crore.
