PM always lies before media: Gayeshwar
Dhaka, June 25, (UNB) – In a scathing attack on the Prime Minister, BNP standing committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy on Monday said Sheikh Hasina lies whenever she appears before the media.
“The Prime Minister starts lying whenever she comes before media -- both at home and abroad. I don’t want to tell anything more about her falsehood,” he said.
Gayeshwar made the remarks reacting to the Prime Minister’s comments that the previous BNP government could not add any electricity to the national grid as it banked on the last Awami League government’s achievement in the sector.
Talking to reporters after placing wreaths at the grave of party founder president Ziaur Rahman along with BNP leader and former MP Dewan Mohammad Salahuddin who were released from jail recently, Gayeshwar said the Prime Minster is also resorting to falsehood over electricity issue.
BNP standing committee member Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan and Dhaka district BNP president Abdul Mannan were, among others, present on the occasion.
Gayeshwar said there has been no respite from power crisis in the country despite installation of quick rental power plants spending crores of taka. “People are not getting power, and mills and factories are facing closure for lack of electricity. So, how do you claim you’ve generated enough power?“ he questioned.
The BNP leader also slammed the Prime Minister’s Saturday’s remarks that she doubts whether BNP will get 10 seats in the next general election.
“Hold the next general election under a caretaker government to test your (Hasina) popularity …let people see who actually gets 10 seats,” he said.
“If you’re so sure BNP won’t get more than 10 seats in the next national election, so what’s your problem in holding the polls under a non-party caretaker administration?” he questioned.
Addressing a discussion marking the 63rd founding anniversary of Awami League at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the city, the premier reportedly said she did not know whether BNP will get 10 seats in the next polls.
Earlier on Sunday, countering the PM’s remarks, BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir invited the ruling Awami League to test its popularity in an ‘election game’ creating a level-playing field after restoring the caretaker government system.
