Dhaka, June 26 (UNB) – Home Minister Shahara Khatun on Tuesday said the comments of journalists over the murder of journalist couple Sagar-Runi mislead people.
“People are being misguided by your (journalists) comments on Sagar-Runi killing,” he told reporters on the sidelines of a discussion at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital in the morning.
The Narcotics Control Department under the Home Ministry organised the discussion, marking the International Day Against Drug Abuse and its Illicit Trafficking.
Asked about the recent comment of ATN Bangla Chairman Mahfuzur Rahman in London on Sagar-Runi killing, Shahara said it will be taken into account if his comment hampers the investigation into the murder case. “If you (journalists) file a case against him, action will be taken (against him),” she said.
Sagar Sarowar, a news editor at private TV channel Maasranga, and his wife Meherun Runi, a senior reporter at ATN Bangla, were found murdered in their rented flat at West Rajabazar in the capital on February 11.
During his recent London tour, the ATN Bangla chief said, "Sagar and Runi had been the victims of an extramarital affair.” He also claimed that he had video footage relating to their killing.
Since then, journalists have been demanding legal action against the ATN Bangla Chairman.
