Dhaka, June 26 (UNB) – Awami League is going to rule the country for the next six and a half years to fulfill its pledges to the people, said Dhaka City Awami League general secretary Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya here on Tuesday.
Citing the election pledges of Awami League including achieving food autarky, expanding education and the total implementation of the dream of “digital Bangladesh” Maya said his party is confident enough to retain the power for the next term.
“People are saying that the voyage of Awami League is going to end in the next one and a half years, but I’m telling you that the voyage has only started… Awami League is determined to uphold Bangladesh as a model to the world in the next six and a half years”, he said.
He was addressing a meeting titled, “Election under Elected Democratic Government”. Bangladesh Muktijoddha Janata League organised the meeting at the National Press Club.
Abdul Haque Sabuj, Dhaka City Awami League’s publication and publicity secretary, said, “Holding the next national election under the democratically elected government is required to ensure the institutionalisation of democracy.”
“Caretaker governments, or one may say army-backed caretaker governments, don’t have the people’s verdict with them, and democracy can’t be upheld in an election under the caretaker government”, he added.
The discussion meeting was presided over by Sirajul Islam Patwary, president of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Janata League, and conducted by Syed Shahidul Haque, the publication and publicity secretary of the organisation.
