News - Stop operation of rental, quick-rental plants: CPB
Dhaka, June 27 (UNB) – Communist Party of Bangladesh on Wednesday demanded the government stop the operation of rental and quick rental power plants, and establish larger plants in the public sector to resolve the country’s perennial power crisis.

CPB leaders at a rally in front of the National Press Club also demanded legal actions against those involved in promoting quick rental plants instead of prioritising the power generation by the public sector.

They expressed grave concern over the move to raise electricity power prices again by the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC).

BERC has been increasing power prices by arranging so-called public hearings, the CPB leaders claimed, urging people to attend the hearing on the power hike proposal and raise their voice there against it.

The leaders also urged the government to strengthen Bapex for the exploration of gas by it as quick as possible.

The also criticised the government for allowing “Santos” to sell the explored gas to a third party and pointed out that the gas buying cost by PDB has tripled due to the decision.

Conducted by Asaduzzaman Masum, the rally was addressed, among others, by party general secretary Abu Zafar Ahmed, central leader Ruhin Hossain Prince and Dhaka unit leader Sajedul Haque.
