Dhaka, June 27 (UNB) – A court here on Wednesday issued warrant for the arrest of five people, including Ahmed Akbar Sobhan alias Shah Alam, the chairman of Bashundhara Group, in a fraudulence case.
Metropolitan Magistrate Farhana Ferdous passed the order.
The other accused are: Sahadat Sobhan, son of Shah Alam and director of Bashundhara Group, Mahbub Morshed Hassan, vice-chairman of East West Property Development Ltd, deputy managing director Touhidul Islam and AGM (estate) M A Hasan.
Selim Ahmed, director of Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) filed the case against the accused on charge of misappropriating Tk 3.15 crore with Metropolitan Magistrate Hasibul Haque`s court on December 27 last year. The court took the case into cognizance and ordered Badda thana officer to take immediate step to investigate and submit a report within February 2 this year.
According to the prosecution, the plaintiff bought three plots, each 5-katha, from East West Property Development Ltd, a concern of Bashundhara Group at a cost of Tk 3.95 crore between Aug 25, 2007, to Feb 25, 2008.
The accused demanded from the plaintiff another Tk 3 crore and the cost of registration and others before handing over the plot to him breaching the original terms of the contract which the complainant refused.
He demanded of the accused to cancel the deal and give his money back which they refused on Nov 20 last year.
Finding no other way to retrieve the money the complainant filed the case against the accused with court.
