Gazipur dyeing factory fined for polluting Turag

Gazipur, June 27 (UNB) – The Department of Environment (DoE) on Wednesday fined a dyeing factory Tk 18 lakh for polluting the Turag River at Kashimpur in Sadar upazila.

A DoE team examined the sample of liquid waste of Yeasin Knitting Ltd and did not find the presence of any oxygen in it.

Later, DoE director (Enforcement) Mohammad Munir Chowdhury fined the owner of the factory for polluting the Turag River and asked to repair its Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP).

According to the DoE, the factory released some 5.6 crore liters of untreated liquid wastes into the river since its establishment.
