Chittagong, June 28 (UNB) – A ship officer was killed after getting entangled in anchor rope around his neck in the Karnaphuli River on Thursday.
The deceased was identified as M Shariful Islam, second officer of FV Pride, a fishing vessel owned by Continental Group of Company. Shariful hailed from Noapara village of Jessore district.
Rana Iftekhar, Captain of another ship anchored nearby, said Shariful got entangled in the anchor rope while he was anchoring his ship to a buoy in the river after coming back from the Bay, leaving him dead on the spot at noon.
Sub-inspector of Double Mooring thana Mohammad Alamgir confirmed the incident.
He said that a police team rushed to the spot and began investigation into the incident.
