News - TomTom Now Provides Free Daily Map Changes to All Devices

Geeky Gadgets Online

TomTom has announced that it will be providing all of its 60 million portable navigation devices on the market with free daily map changes. The map updates will come via the TomTom Map Share community. Map Share allows the drivers to personalize maps on their own devices and then share and receive map changes from other users.

My big concern would be that a user would submit bogus maps to confuse people. I wonder how TomTom deals with that. The idea is interesting though because any changes to road can be made by any user immediately and then shared. If the speed limit changes or a new street is opened or blocked changes can be made.

The system also allows users to update traffic conditions as well. Map Share is available for many customers using TomTom devices and starting today all users of the TomTom Start, Via, and GO devices now have access.
