News - Under-construction flyover collapses in Ctg; 1 injured

Chittagong, June 29 (UNB) – A portion of an under-construction flyover at Bahaddarhat in Chandgaon thana of the city collapsed on Friday, leaving a man injured and creating a severe traffic jam in the area.

A rickshaw-puller, Jahangir, standing beneath the flyover, was injured as a big concrete structure of it fell on his rickshaw.

Locals said a 120-foot long concrete girder of the flyover caved in at about 1:30pm.

Chittagong Development Authority (CDA) started the construction work on the 1.4-km flyover at a cost of Tk 106 crore in 2010.

Contacted, CDA member Mofizur Rahman said a two-member probe committee, led by CDA project Habibur Rahman, has been formed in this connection.

The committee has been asked to submit its preliminary report within the next 24 hours.
