Dhaka, June 28 (UNB) - All out preparations have been taken to observe the 91st Founding Day of the Dhaka University on July 1 amid great enthusiasm and festivity with the participation of its current and former students.
The theme of the day is ‘Higher Education in Women Empowerment’.
“To observe the day, the university authorities have chalked out elaborate programmmes marking the day,” DU Vice-chancellor Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique told UNB.
The VC said the university will bring out a colourful procession, and hold exhibition, discussions, reminiscence and cultural sessions, sports and debate competitions.
A committee led by DU treasurer Prof Dr Kamal Uddin has been formed to celebrate the occasion in a befitting manner.
DU sources said rallies will be brought out from the residential halls of the university at 9 am, while the national flag, DU flag and flags of different halls will be hoisted at 9:15 am.
Later, teachers and students will bring out a procession and then move to the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) on the campus to attend inaugural dance function at 10 am, and discussion and reminiscing programme at 10:05 am.
DU Vice-Chancellor Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique will attend the discussion as the chief guest while Pro-Vice Chancellors Prof Nasreen Ahmed (academic) and Prof Shahid Akther Hossain (administration) will be present as special guests.
Professor Emeritus Anisuzzman will present the keynote paper on `Higher Education in Women Empowerment' at the discussion, to be chaired by DU treasurer Prof M Kamal Uddin.
Former vice-chancellors, pro-vice chancellors, emeritus professors, teachers and representatives of staff and employees will attend the discussion.
Besides, discussion meetings, debate competition at the TSC, football and cricket matches, cultural functions and drama will be held on the occasion.
Different halls, departments and other offices will remain open marking the day.
The day is observed to mark the launching of academic activities by the DU on this day in 1921.
