News - 'Govt won’t tolerate abnormal stock, artificial crisis during Ramadan'
Dhaka, July 1 (UNB) – Commerce Minister GM Quader on Sunday said the government will not tolerate any artificial crisis and ‘abnormal’ stock of essentials in the market during the holy month of Ramadan.

“Market monitoring is on to keep the market stable. Such drives will be strengthened further so that the consumers in no way become hostage in the hands of traders,” he told a function at Dhaka University.

GM Quader said the supply of essentials to the market during Ramadan will remain uninterrupted as the government has taken necessary steps to that end. “There’s no possibility of any crisis.”

The Commerce Minister said the government has taken all the necessary steps to ensure the smooth supply of essentials at fair prices during Ramadan. “TCB (Trading Corporation of Bangladesh) has also taken preparations to supply essentials to the market.”

He urged the traders to play a responsible role so that the consumers do not get deprived of quality essentials at fair prices.

“Business is a sacred profession. Business should be done with a service mentality with a logical profit margin. The government hopes that the businesses will play a responsible role,” the Commerce Minister said.

About chickens and eggs crises in the market, he said the government has withdrawn the import bar as soon as it witnessed the crisis of the two essential items.

Presided over by DU Marketing department Chairman Prof Dr Rajia Begum, the function was addressed, among others, by Prof Abdul Kuddus and Prof Mizanur Rahman. It was arranged marking the 39th founding anniversary of the Marketing department.
