Sylhet, July 1 (UNB) – Industries Minister Dilip Barua has directed the officials concerned to strengthen the supervision over the construction work of Shahjalal Fertiliser Factory.

“The construction work must be completed within the stipulated time,” he told a meeting after his visit to the project site at Fenchuganj on Friday.

Local MP Mahmud-us-Samad Chowdhury, Managing Director of Natural Gas Fertiliser Factory Limited Rosomoy Chakrawarty, Project Director M Kamruzzaman and representatives from the local administration, contractors and other officials concerned were present at the meeting.

Barua expressed satisfaction over the progress of work and asked the officials to redouble their efforts to complete the works in time.

He urged all to remain alert about the standard of the work and said the government will not compromise with the quality.

On March 24, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina laid the foundation stone of about Tk 6,000 crore Shahjalal Fertiliser Factory in Fenchuganj.

The government had taken the project with financial support from China amid growing demand for the important agri-input.

Once implemented, the factory will produce 1,760 metric tonnes of urea a day while 580,800 metric tonnes a year, the officials said.

Apart from producing urea, the factory will help produce 330,000 metric tonnes of ammonia annually.
