Chittagong, July 4 (UNB) - President of Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) Murshed Murad Ibrahim on Wednesday urged the government to introduce ‘Bunkering Policy’ for the seagoing vessels of the Chittagong Port immediately.
He made the demand to remove negative image about the port to the outside world as well as increase productivity and capability of the prime seaport of the country.
The camber leader placed the demand in a letter to State Minister for Power, Energy & Mineral Resources Brig. General (retd.) Enamul Hoque.
The Chamber President said that it is very much necessary to design bunkering policy to motivate investors from home and abroad as well as maintain the international standard of the Port.
He mentioned that a good number of foreign vessels left Chittagong Port as bunkering was postponed suddenly.
Murshed said that Chittagong Port has been supplying bunker for ages. But recently this business is being treated as illegal one which puts the mother vessels and their agents in a deep trouble without any remedy.
Mentioning that the suppliers are facing a lot
of problem as there is no fixed policy for bunkering, the Chamber President requested the State Minister for Power, Energy & Mineral Resources to introduce a proper policy for bunkering to overcome the crisis.
