News - Perform duties being loyal to leadership: President to PGR
Dhaka, Jul 5 (UNB) – President Zillur Rahman has asked the President Guard Regiment (PGR) to properly perform their duties maintaining loyalty to the leadership and help improve the standard of the regiment.

The president made the directive while addressing the Darbar of PGR at Shahid Capt Hafiz Hall at the PGR Headquarters of Dhaka Cantonment marking its 37th founding anniversary on Thursday.

President Zillur said: “While discharging the holy duties in the President Guard Regiment you should contribute towards improving the regiment showing profound patriotism, sincere dutifulness, high discipline and professional competence.”

Describing the PGR’s duties as prestigious but risky, Zillur said they are getting a rare opportunity to show their professionalism through participating in various state protocols.

“I’ve seen your job pressures are increasing every day and manpower in the regiment has been increased to reduce your pressure,” the President said, adding that he has a plan to strengthen further the regiment considering the importance and magnitude of its duty.

“I’m impressed to see that the PGR is implementing some development programmes for their welfare and I think that further dynamism will come to their activities after implementation of the programmes,” he said.

President Ziullur said: “I hope you’ll properly perform the responsibilities entrusted upon you being completely loyal to the leadership and improve the standard of the regiment gradually.”

He recalled that the PGR was established on July 5, 1975 with the efforts of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The chiefs of the three services, the PGR Commandant, high military and civil officials were also present on the occasion.
