Dhaka, July 5 (UNB) – Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) has planned to conduct the third economic census (2013) during March-April next year, said its new director general Golam Mostafa Kamal on Thursday.
“The main objective of the economic census is to build up an effective statistical base by making non-farm sectors pro-development ones in a planned way,” he told a press conference at BBS conference room.
Providing updated benchmark information of national income, data on other activities of overall economy, and compilations and analyses of economic activities are among the objectives of the economic census, Kamal said.
The second economic census was conducted in two phases -- in 2001 in urban areas and in 2003 in rural areas. The first economic census was conducted in 1986, he told reporters.
“We’ve already started preparatory works at the field level to conduct the third economic survey,” the BBS DG said.
As part of the preparations, the BBS will carry out two zonal operations at the field level, Mostafa Kamal said.
