Dhaka, July 7 (UNB) - Hours after his resignation as Member of Parliament was accepted by the Speaker, Tanjim Ahmed Sohel Taj met Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday night.

Sohel Taj met the Prime Minister at her official residence Ganobhaban at 9.30pm, PM’s Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad told UNB without elaboration.

Earlier, Sohel Taj met Speaker Abdul Hamid Advocate at about 6pm and tendered his resignation letter.

A news release issued by the Bangladesh Parliament Secretariat said the Speaker accepted his resignation.

On May 9, Speaker Abdul Hamid turned down the resignation letter of Sohel Taj for not maintaining the due procedure as stated in the Constitution and the rules of procedure of Parliament for resignation as an MP.

At that time, the Speaker had said Sohel Taj would have to physically turn up to submit his resignation.

On April 23, Sohel Taj, an ex-MP from Gazipur-4 (Kapasia), sent his resignation letter to the Speaker from Maryland, USA. He arrived here on July 5.
